The ichthus or "Christian fish" symbol has a history centuries old. . Forming the first two letters of the name "Christ" are the Greek letters "chi" X and "rho" P.  These letters form a fish when crossed, relating to Christ's miracle of the loaves and fishes. The Ichthus symbol was used by early Christians to acknowledge a fellow believer in Christ without the need for exchanging any verbal communication.
